A row-row service filled with three tankers of Liquid Medical Oxygen (LMO), which left Hapa, Gujarat on April 25, 2021 at 6.03 am, reached Kalamboli, Mumbai, Maharashtra on April 26, 2021 at 11.25 am. These oxygen tankers were supplied by Messrs. Reliance Industries, Jamnagar.
The tankers transported about 44 tons of liquid medical oxygen by traveling 860 km to reach its destination by Oxygen Express. Adequate arrangements were made at the Clumboli Good Shed for smooth operation of the Oxygen Express.
Oxygen Express reached Kalamboli from Hapa via Viramgam, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Surat, Vasai Road and Bhiwandi Road keeping in view all the safety parameters. A green corridor has been provided for the speed of Oxygen Express. The Railways is ensuring that medical oxygen is being made available to Kovid-19 patients across the country by Oxygen Express, which will provide relief to the needy.
The Railways has so far operated Oxygen Express from Mumbai via Nagpur and Nashik and from Lucknow to Bokaro and a total of 150 tonnes of liquid oxygen has been transported till April 25, 2021. More Oxygen Express is being run from different parts of the country.
Since liquid oxygen is a cryogenic cargo, special care has been taken about the maximum speed at which it can be carried on acceleration and degradation. Railways have continued to transport essential goods and even during last year's lockdown, the supply chain has remained intact and has continued to serve the country in times of crisis.
